Key Skill Areas:
Business Development particularly in IT and Telecommunications.
Core Experience:
Initially traditional electronics engineering skills
(R&D, analogue and digital hardware design, software - especially
assembler, real-time and embedded low level software, microprocessors,
speech processing, mathematics and some cryptography and error
correction). Progression to engineering management and consultancy
(project management, people management, budgeting, technical
proposals, feasibility studies, product specification, product
reliability). At a more senior level, operations manager for
a large international telecoms supplier (£26m budget and
88 staff) with particular emphasis on change management, improving
service levels, providing 24*7 availability, negotiating service
level agreements (SLA's), introduction of the TL9000 standard,
establishing Intranet and Extranet information systems, maintaining
global supply, support and distributor contracts, troubleshooting.
Nowadays, I am mainly a generalist, with good communication and
analytical skills. I regard myself as a well organised, logical
thinker with a solid engineering background and excellent all
round business and commercial skills. I have a particular flair
for identifying the essence of a problem, which leads to a rapid
determination of the solution. I have been involved in two start
up companies, have given many training courses and lectures including
an international lecture series on behalf of NATO. I wrote a
book on microprocessors, which the DTI adopted and published.
I have appeared on both ITV's "News at ten" and BBC's
"Tomorrow's World" and a microprocessor trainer, which
I developed was exhibited at the science museum. Hobbies include
running, sailing, hill walking, science and technology, discrete
maths, cooking and fine wine. Keywords: TCP/IP, client/server
systems, GSM, text messaging, firmware, Linux, vocoders, Excel,
Word, customer support, documentation, technical support, EMEA,
mathematical analysis, BABT, interviewing, change management.
I also have indirect access to expertise in Customs procedures
(import, export, bonded warehouses, Intrastat and VAT).
