Qualifications:
BSc. Accredited Associate, Institute for Independent Business.

Core Experience:
My business is software products, usually in the technical 'toolsets' end of the business (as opposed to commercial applications). My experience is in all aspects of software product business: · running technically demanding software development groups, technical/sales support groups, test groups etc. · product management/marketing · software licensing models and related commercial issues · sales, , marketing communications, etc. · general business admin, operations, accounting · overall running the company/division. I have held General Management, Development Director and MD positions.

Industry Sectors worked in:
Technical Software products in the arena of industrial process / production control and monitoring systems and telecom infrastructure. These are typically used in the engineering fields and are characterised as real-time systems, 24*7 high availability systems, embedded systems. Electronic networking and communications are integral to all these systems. Some exposure to plant floor to board room data integration.

I have a reputation for 'translating' ideas and issues between highly technical staff and the rest of us and for concentrating on software robustness which cause so much strife in customer relations as well as much internal frustration between the 'techies' and the 'non techies'. In I have overseen the accreditation of TickIT, now ISO 9000-2000 quality systems and understand it's business benefit not (just) it's sales benefit. Having undertaken most roles at some time in my career, I am a generalist as regards most businesses, focusing on business strategy. I particularly understand the very unique business model of the true software product business, (it has very low direct sales cost and very high overheads). It should demand good product management / business strategy but unfortunately seldom does. I can structure and manage the technical end of the business dealing with the interfaces between product marketing, development, test, and technical/sales support to maximise efficiency principally through improving customer relationships and product planning. I have worked for multinationals, in both US and UK owned companies. If you are advising a company that develops software for use in it's products, or product range, I can make improvements in that company.
